Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a result of compression of the median nerve in the narrow space of the carpal tunnel. Inflammation, water retention and scar tissue increase internal or external canal pressure, which leads to entrapment of the median nerve. It will inflict numbness and tingling sensation along the inner side of the forearm, thumb, index, middle and a half of the ring finger. Carpal Tunnel is often caused by repetitive strain in manual jobs but it is also associated with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy and diabetes mellitus. Our approach to treatment of the carpal tunnel syndrome is very simple and precise. It focuses on release of the pressure by inserting the needles along the pronator teres muscle, as well as “awakening” of the nerve by stimulating the muscles that it innervates. We usually finish the treatment by doing some soft tissue work specific to carpal tunnel and provide stretches to our patient to do at home for much faster results.
